Johnny is an established Birmingham-based Dance Artist and emerging choreographer who has worked internationally with choreographers and companies in France, the Netherlands, Norway and Spain, as well as touring work across Europe and South America.
He graduated from the National Conservatoire of Music and Dance of Poitiers (France) in 2006 and from very early on in his career went on to perform, choreograph and direct work; experimenting with a range of different styles, from contemporary and street dance to flamenco.
A contemporary dance performer and physical theatre practitioner, Johnny has also worked as a rehearsal director, choreographer and dramaturge for companies including Kompany Malakhi, Tempered Body Dance Theatre, Harnisch-Lacey Dance Theatre, 2Faced Dance Company, Gravity & Levity, Panta Rei Danseteater and Company Decalage.
He has performed works by Darshan Singh Bhuller, Balbir Singh, Tom Dale, Helene Blackburn, Freddie Oppoku-Addaie, Gregory Maqoma to name a few.
In collaboration with Jerrel Jackson, Johnny founded Man Made Youth Company in 2014, Birmingham’s first independent all-male youth dance company.
As a dance maker and project leader, Johnny has been commissioned by several arts organisations in the UK and internationally to create work and engage with young dancers and professional performers including: “Beyond” for Ludus Dance, “The Calling” for 2Faced Youth in 2012, “Against the grain” for the Roses Theatre and “Intangibles” a community outdoor piece in 2013.
